Casa Tequila: A Solid Mexican Dinner in South Tulsa

My family and I visited Casa Tequila for my mom’s birthday, and we left reasonably impressed across the board — food, atmosphere, service, and price all cleared the bar.

South Tulsa has no shortage of Tex-Mex options, but Casa Tequila on South Harvard has built a loyal following, and one visit makes that easy to understand.

The Atmosphere

The place had a fairly typical Tex-Mex atmosphere — you’d enjoy yourself here on a date or with a large party. It was lively but not boisterous. A place for all occasions really, even just lunch during the work day.

There’s a large fountain in the main dining area that kids throw coins into, and there’s a small bar area near the entrance for anyone looking to grab a quick margarita with chips and salsa.

The Chips, Salsa, and Queso

The chips were fresh and the salsa was spicy and delicious. The white queso was particularly enjoyable — creamy, well-seasoned, and easy to share around the table. It set a solid tone for the meal.

What We Ordered

I ordered the Salmon de la Casa — honey lime grilled Atlantic salmon covered with lump crab meat, tomatoes, and a citrus beurre blanc, served with cilantro rice, mango, and pico de gallo. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The salmon was slightly above average and not particularly flavorful, but the fixings pushed it to the next level and I cleaned my plate.

My wife ordered the Pollo El Guapo — grilled boneless chicken topped with grilled shrimp, spinach, and melted cheese, served with vegetables, rice, and corn on the cob. She enjoyed the veggies and shrimp, but the chicken was fairly charred and neither one of us cared for it.

My son had the cheeseburger and fries off the kids menu and demolished it. He only knows about 10 words but one of them is “mmmmmm” for good food and he said that quite a bit.

I’m not sure what my mom ordered, but she didn’t complain about it on the way home — and she’s not one to stay silent about a disappointing meal — so it must have been good.

Service and Value

The service was good. Plenty of drink refills and no issues. The wait staff was very friendly.

Altogether our bill came out to $84 before tip for 3 adult dinners, 1 kids meal, 1 soft drink, 3 waters, and an order of queso — so not a bad price in today’s economy.

The Bottom Line

Casa Tequila isn’t trying to reinvent the wheel, and it doesn’t need to. The chips are fresh, the salsa has real heat, the seafood dishes are worth your attention, and the atmosphere makes it easy to linger. If the chicken had been better executed, it would have been a near-perfect evening. Even with that miss, it was a solid birthday dinner that left the whole table happy.
