Country Cottage Restaurant in Locust Grove Has Been Feeding Oklahoma Families for Nearly Four Decades

Country Cottage Restaurant in Locust Grove has been pulling people off the turnpike since 1986. This stretch of northeastern Oklahoma is loaded with natural attractions — Natural Falls State Park, Flint Creek, Blue Hole — but the small towns out here offer limited dining. Country Cottage fills that gap in a big way, and plenty of people make the drive out specifically for it.

My first time visiting was when my wife and I were still dating many years ago. We made the trip with her parents and grandparents. It was a traditional trip for them where they met up with much of their extended family that has scattered across the state, many of whom are now no longer with us. The restaurant has a dining room just for large parties with lots of space for family reunions. That was the last time they all got together like that.

My wife and son and I visited again this April with her parents on our way to Natural Falls State Park on an impromptu day trip and it was every bit as good as it always has been.

A Locust Grove Family Business Since 1986

Country Cottage has been family-owned and operated since opening in 1986. The restaurant was built on multigenerational family recipes, all made from scratch, and that foundation hasn’t changed. The family has added onto the original building many times over the years, giving it the look of an old Victorian home — which is part of what makes the place so distinctive from the road.

What’s on the Buffet

The restaurant offers fairly affordable buffet dining with a robust salad bar and southern home cooking like tender pork loin, crispy fried chicken, chicken and noodles, chili, fried okra and a large array of other sides, casseroles — and most important to me — a vast array of desserts like cobblers, cakes, pies, and more, all available à la mode. All of the food is good but the fried chicken and desserts are exceptional and the wait staff is super attentive and friendly.

On top of the all-you-can-eat delicious food, there’s also an eclectic boutique shop in the lobby with home goods, clothes, toys, and novelty items. The restaurant also has a refrigerator full of fresh, delicious pies and desserts ready to purchase on your way out.

A Note on the Water

My only complaint about the whole place is the taste of the water. My in-laws and wife noticed the taste but it didn’t bother them much. To me it was too disgusting to drink — thankfully I bring my own water bottle everywhere. So from our small sample size there’s a 25% chance you won’t want to drink the water. That may not even be a Country Cottage issue, it could just be the local water supply.
